Introduction
The work of the editors is one of the cornerstones in ensuring the quality of SaltWiki. In addition to organising the creation of the articles, it also includes checking the texts, illustrations, etc. to make sure that they adhere to the author guidelines, and also carrying out plausibility checks on the content of data.
Looking after authors in the editorial area
Authors are looked after by editors responsible for the editorial area. One significant point is the registration of an author for activity in SaltWiki. The editor has to pay attention to the following:
- Completeness of details required for registration (name, address, e-mail address)
- Checks on the content
- What article is being written?
- Does this, or a similar one, already exist? yes/no.
- What data should be set up in the repository?
- After checking, please set up author access and send to the administrator at the Hornemann Institute
If an author is not to be licensed, send author information to the chief editor (??) of SaltWiki through the editor and provide information with a justification.
Minimum requirements of an article
The editors are required to check each article to make sure that they adhere to the minimum requirements. An article can only be released if the minimum standards have been met:
- The author guidelines have been met
- A synopsis is present
- There is at least one traceable set of source or reference details
- All judgemental statements can be verified using scientific sources
- At least one category is assigned to the article
Illustrations
All illustrations must be checked for rights of use. If these are not present after a plausibility check, the illustration must be blocked and the author requested to make a correction. The general rules for handling images summarized in the guidelines for illustrations (see author guidelines) shall apply.
Advertising
The editors must make sure that no advertising occurs in the articles.
Workflow
The following steps are recommended:
For an article
1. The author creates the article on a page in SaltWiki
- Check whether the content already occurs in SaltWiki
- Check the content for plausibility
- Check whether the illustrations meet requirements and the illustration signature is complete
- Check the proposals for allocation into categories
2. Response to author with proposed changes and comments
3. Author delivers corrections or works these directly into SaltWiki.
- Check the corrections and completeness of the article
4. In the case of smaller articles, it is left to the editor's discretion whether to release the current version of an article after looking through it without having a further review process.
5. Start of the review process with the editor communicating with all authors, setting a time window, which generally should not exceed one month.
6. Response to the author with the comments of the "reviewers" (automatic notification)
7. Author incorporates corrections
- Final editing of the article by the editor, checking of links, photos, etc.
8. Public activation
9. Observation of the discussion page and, if necessary, incorporation of further corrections by the author.
- Moderation of the discussion page
- Incorporation of further changes by the author.
10. If an already-released version is reworked, then the last checked version will be released for all to read. The new version being edited will then only be visible to authors and editors. The version is released by the editor clicking on the "Confirm" button in the version view of the article. 11. If an editor is editing an article, then this version will always be identified as released.
For data
1. Data is uploaded by the author
- Check the data for plausibility
- Check the metadata
- Check the links, etc.
- Check the categorization
2. If necessary, proposed changes sent to author
- Check the changes
3. Block the data against changes
4. If necessary at a later date, correction of data/metadata, etc. by author.
