Salts
Soluble salts may damage inorganic porous building materials and are one of the most important deteriorating factors for cultural heritage objects. To be able to develop both effective measures against existing salt-induced damage as well as preventive ones, it is necessary to understand what salts are, how they behave or interact with the substrate and their environment. In real situations, soluble salts generally appear as salt mixtures so that the behavior of a particular salt cannot be observed independently.
